Brand-safe inventory

Brand-safe inventory is advertising space that has been vetted so that a brand's message appears adjacent to content consistent with the advertiser's standards and free of material the advertiser wants to avoid. Safety is assessed against categories such as violence, hate speech, misinformation, and other sensitive contexts, and it is enforced through source selection, content classification, and exclusion controls.

What are the boundaries of the term?

Brand safety concerns the surrounding content and context of an impression, not whether the impression was actually seen by a human. Viewability and invalid-traffic filtering are related but separate quality measures.

How does it contrast with related concepts?

Brand suitability is a stricter, advertiser-specific refinement of brand safety: an alcohol brand may treat certain otherwise-safe content as unsuitable for its category. General brand safety sets an industry baseline, while suitability tailors that baseline to a particular advertiser.

What is a worked example?

A financial-services advertiser requires that its ads never appear beside speculative cryptocurrency content. Aurum Networks satisfies that requirement by sourcing the campaign from curated, professionally edited publisher inventory and applying category exclusions.
